Fox News has launched a new website called TheFoxNation
More after the orange fold.
From the "our purpose" section of TheFoxNation: (all italics added by diarist)
Our Purpose
The FOX Nation Statement of Purpose
The Fox Nation was created for people who believe in the United States of America and its ideals, as expressed in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Emancipation Proclamation.
Um, the emancipation proclamation? Just seems odd that fox would put this in their purpose statement...is this a way to keep the racist rhetoric, that fox knows their watchers love to spew, to a minimum? I'm assuming they are hoping to cut off their followers hatespeech at the pass.
It is a community that believes in the American Dream: Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. One that believes being an American is an honor, as well as a great responsibility—and a wonderful adventure.
This is a place for people who believe we live in a great country, a welcoming refuge for legal immigrants who want to contribute their talent and abilities to make our way of life even greater.
You hear that illegals?! Fox believes in the American dream: "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"...oh, but that universally human dream only applies to humans they deem "legal".
We believe we should enjoy the company and support of each other, delighting in the creativity, ingenuity, and work ethic of one and all, while observing the basic rules of civility and mutual respect and, most importantly, strengthening our diverse society by striving for unity.
..."by striving for unity" (read: mainlining republican propaganda into the collective arteries of America)
The Fox Nation is for those committed to the core principles of tolerance, open debate, civil discourse--and fair and balanced coverage of the news. It is for those opposed to intolerance, excessive government control of our lives, and attempts to monopolize opinion or suppress freedom of thought, expression, and worship. We invite all Americans who share these values to join us here at Fox Nation.
So as I said above, TheFoxNation.com is FOR "striving for unity" (read: pushing propaganda), yet they are "opposed to...attempts to monopolize opinion or supress freedom of thought, expression, and worship". In other words they are either opposed to their own mission statement, or are opposed to governance by majority rule, therefore it is their mission to muddle the opinions of that majority through their multiple outlets designed to push republican propaganda.
Let's look at some of the "fair and balanced 'news'" on Fox's new OPINION website:
- Scary! Obama nominee wants one world order
- Obama fires GM CEO
- Rush says Hillary twice the man Obama is
- Guess who O'Reilly is boycotting?
- Beck: It's anti-american to try to keep newspapers afloat
And from this article interviewing Fox Vice President Joel Cheatwood (appropriate last name)
"We felt that giving people a real destination to go and express themselves would give them a feeling of belonging, people feel they're dictated to a lot by the media."
[....]
"I don't think this is going to be limited to die-hard Fox News fans," Cheatwood says. When registration begins in two months, users will be asked to abide by "core principles of tolerance, open debate, civil discourse and fair and balanced coverage of the news," with insulting comments deleted.
"If they're critical of Fox News, that's fine," Cheatwood says. "You just can't say anything that's hateful or hurtful to someone else."
Riiiiiiight, well, we'll see how long those rules last for and if/how they are enforced.
Stay classy Fox, stay classy.
