It's tuesday and that means its time for the weekly conference call with the irascible Kentucky Senator, Jim Bunning.
This week Bunning decided to do his best Mother Cleo impression and read the tea leaves:
"Do you realize that under our dynamic leadership of our leader, we have gone from 55 and probably to 40 (Senate seats) in two election cycles, and if the tea leaves that I read are correct, we will wind up with about 36 after this election cycle.
So if leadership means anything, it means you don’t lose ... approximately 19 seats in three election cycles with good leadership."
More fun with your favorite disgruntled republican after the fold.
Asked if the leadership Bunning was talking about was his fellow KY Senator, Mitch McConnel, he replies:
Obviously. Do you want me to spell it out for you?
...this guy is comedic gold, oh, and its gets better.
Bunning continues on McConnel:
Good God, he wants to run everybody!
Bunning on Specters defection, cancer, old age, and life just not being fair:
It is the fact that Arlen Specter is probably as selfish as our leader is in trying to survive, that’s the only way he thought he would survive in the U.S. Senate
Do you know Arlen Specter will be 80, has had four bouts with cancer and he still wants to run for the U.S. Senate?
And I’m being criticized at 77 and healthy for wanting to run for the U.S. Senate by certain leadership people in my party. Give me a break.
In other words, Good Bye Cruel Senate!
And for those who may have missed it, there has been rumors of Bunnings retirement after telling his chief primary opposition, Greyskull - er, Grayson - to form an exploratory committee last week.
When asked asked last week about whispers of Bunnings retirement, true to form, Bunning replied:
I won't talk to you.
oooooookay...
And Bunnings spokesman last week:
Senator Bunning has every intention of running
Today, according to WFPL radio, Sen. Bunning again reiterated his intentions to run for re election in 2010:
He is a dear friend, and i thought this would be a way for him not to have to pay to travel around the state and still gather up some money for any federal office he chooses to run for
Aw, how sweet, at least he still has one dear friend in Kentucky.
Bunning said that the only way he wouldn’t run is if he doesn’t meet his fundraising goals later in the year.
